Dribbling Geriatrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Stokes-Herbst on November 19, 2009

in pc

I am incandescent with rage with the care-home manager in the UK (I think it was Ian Rapley) who inferred some of his residents are Dribbling Geriatrics’… life is not and people are not just disposable or useless-they are someone’s Mum or Dad at the least and Human!…seen on BBC breakfast this morning, and rumor has it on tomorrow…

The case is seen in the backdrop of where residents are trying to rein in the spiraling ‘management fees’ for ‘emergency pull cords’  and similar services.  Residents are seeing their savings dwindle just to pay these extra management fees and see the management companies as lining their own pockets at the expense of the less able.

Inferred- …not all of our residents are Dribbling Geriatrics’…. (from my poor memory!) clearly shows the nature of his thinking and that the residents are right about the alleged mercenary and callous approach of the financial thinking behind costs of services….

Maybe those involved should be tackled on a Legal basis?

I Move!

See:

BBC Breakfast has just promoted our campaign on TV.  Consensus immediately said we were a small group of serial complainers.  They are clearly in denial about the size of this campaign – even though they do not know actually how many residents and developments are involved.  Comments are already arriving through the website, and the BBC – keep ‘em coming.   Make sure if you live in the West you show your support by applying for a place at our Regional Meeting in Yeovil.  See Forthcoming events page for details and contact email address.  For details if you are not able to email: call 01243 544318.

Political correctness gone mad again as usual. They’ll be banning the word spakka now!

…..And so they should-people are precious, and of value, unlike the view owned by some-Editor !

This man is a fool and condemned by his own words. He will be responsible for a huge fall in his company’s reputation and/or share price. The personal offence he will have caused to thousands will go unpunished unless he is sacked

Thanks for that….I agree and hope this will go further-we need to erdicate this sort of discrimination………..
Cheers

As the world’s number one opponent of political correctness, I condemn this man’s behaviour

You have been able to do more research than me-I too hold the veiw that political correctness is ridiculous in this country and taken to extremes being hijacked by some to achieve their own aims. However in this case, it shows up the secret thinking of the man and some in general in this country towards those in need…………the elderly, and those who have served the younger generation. It also shows up the financial aspect because of it’s context-big monied organisations making money out of the less able…….

Just think how it would be if *all* senior commercial managers within these organisations were as competent as Mr. Rapley in dealing with adverse customer comment and subsequent media exposure.

No doubt (and in the very near future) we can expect an announcement by the appropriate Board(s) of Management of an early and “mutually acceptable” arrangement, whereby Rapley will be described as having decided to “retire early”, “devote more time to his family” or maybe even “pursue new challenges in order to consolidate his commercial career and build upon his professional management expertise”.

One such challenge – and arguably the most immediate – will be the unenviable situation of Rapley finding himself having to survive on the meagre pittance arising from a contractual pay-off and inflation-proofed private pension.

One’s heart bleeds, does it not.

Well said!!!!

Hi,
Glad to hear that Ian Rapley has apologized, however I have doubts whether these companies will change their behavior including financial. It is a travesty that these companies are allowed to charge such extreme prices for their services-see other related blogs where they charged business Nectar points on gas accounts that their owners weren’t able to pay! Tell all these residents that they are able to sack the companies involved and do it differently!

If people looked after their own parents in the way their parents looked after them instead of palming them off away from view in these shabby ran care homes then this wouldnt be a problem. Since These care homes have to charge to look after them and then get blasted about charging them, then these old coffin dodgers are as much as nuisence to the care home as they were to their own children who chucked them in there.
